Peita’s Polish Keep Calm, I’m Wonder Woman

Well have I ever been busy the last few weeks! This whole wedding planning thing is kinda time consuming I have to admit. I haven’t had the time to sit down and do my nails anywhere near as often, let alone photograph and edit.

Which is a shame, as this month’s What’s In-die Box was again a total winner. Superheroes & Villains was the theme, and we got 4/5 villians (yay!) and the one superhero was another winner from Peita’s PolishKeep Calm, I’m Wonder Woman is shown up top, all shining blue, red, silver and gold, with stars and tiny white dots and even tinier iridescent sparkles throughout. I only needed one dabbed coat for great coverage.

The good news though - when I did  find the time, I think I nailed it (har-har) on the nail art front this month! My March favourites are mostly contributions to Tri-Polish Tuesdays, which had Green, Blue and Purple as the March colours. A nice graphic outline was my first shot, then I tried a Nailasaurus nimbus which worked out quite well. The in the last week of March I was browsing street art images and was inspired to do some freehand striped patterns over a lightly sponged pastel base.

I’m off work now but that doesn’t mean the next 8 days are going to be ridiculously busy with planning and preparing - hopefully I’ll find some time to sit and relax and pretty up my nails between all the chaos!

Jamberry Nail Wraps

I’ve spent this week playing around with some Jamberry nail wraps, courtesy of the lovely Madison (IG @madisjamberrys) and it’s been a much more successful experience than last time I tried nail wraps.

Because I was only sent some samples I can’t show you a full mani, but I’ve used the ones that fit best as an accent nail in a few different manis. This is how I would prefer to wear them anyway, as I love the actual painting process of doing my nails.

By far my favourite is the plaid one in the middle - it’s a design I would never be able to do so exactly on my own. I did start getting a bit cocky by the time I used the colourful diamond pattern. I didn’t heat it correctly, so it hasn’t applied as nicely. I could have redone it quite easily, but I just wanted to show how crucial the heating process is because it does make a huge difference.

In my opinion, the heating process is the best and worst feature of Jamberry wraps. When you heat the wrap, it becomes a bit more flexible and gives a bit of stretch, so it wraps your nail and doesn’t rely so much on being sticky as much as it does on actually forming to your nail. This makes the end result much more natural looking with no lumps and bumps (like picture 3).

Then comes the big but (no, not that  kind) - you have to heat again after application. This ensures they will stay put for up to 2 weeks (I can’t vouch for this, I change up way too often), but it also means direct heat to your skin, drying it out. So moisturise and oil those mothers up straight after heating, and don’t change your wraps too frequently if you want to keep your nails in top condition.

I would love if Jamberry sold separates for accent nails, but right now they are sold as sheets of 18 wraps (9 different sizes). Unfortunately these are not available in Australia right now, but who knows what may come? I think these are a great option for those who like having their nails done but don’t have the time or skill to do it themselves. For those who do have the time and skills it’s still an easy way to lift up a mani with a quick accent nail.

I was sent a few samples in some different sizes, and while free things are lovely this in no way effected my opinion of the product. If you follow Madi on IG and ask nicely, she may send you some samples too! If you’re ready to jump in and live in the U.S. or Canada, hit up the website.

Tri Polish Tuesday Green, Blue, Purple - March 2014
I was feeling a bit rubbish today, so I stayed at home feeling sorry for myself. I thought it was the perfect excuse to tackle some nail art I’ve been wanting to try since I first saw Sammy AKA The Nailasaurus post it 6 months ago. Yes, I’m a bit slow on actually doing things that I want to do sometimes.
The March Tri Polish Tuesday theme and Nimbus nails were meant to be. My choice of Essie Bobbing for Baublesas the blue polish, not so much. I wanted a dark blue to contrast the washed out green (BYS Rollar Coaster [their typo, not mine]) and purple (Ulta3 Royal Fever) but all my darker blues are at the super dark end of the spectrum so options weren’t great.
I’m happy with how it turned out nonetheless. I think I picked up the actual technique fairly quickly, but I’d like to layer a little more or use less contrasting colours next time.
I am definitely feeling a lot better tonight, and I’m partly crediting my pretty nails with the boost in my mood. Back to the real world tomorrow!

Golden Oldies Thursday Skittle
I missed the week where green was the theme for the GOT polish challenge, and given it’s my favourite colour I thought I’d capitalise on one of the looser themes.
I’ve only used two polishes for my skittle - Cult Nails Let Me Fly  and China Glaze Emerald Fitzgerald  (an all time favourite).
From index to pinky, I’ve done: some kind of odd striped border, the cling wrap technique, a gradient, and sugar spun. While my index was a bit of a fail, I’m glad I pushed myself to do something different with only two colours! I’ve never tried sugar spun before and it was surprisingly easy so I’ll definitely be giving it a go again.

Tri Polish Tuesday Green, Blue, Purple - March 2014
I really fell off the wagon for Tri Polish Tuesday in February despite being all about the colour combo of pink/grey/brown. I think I actually did it for three weeks but just never got around to photographing/editing them. Sigh, at least I know it’s a great looking colour combo for future inspiration.
This month I’m really trying to be organised, so here’s week 1 of green, blue and purple. Easily the 3 most represented colours in my collection so the possibilities are going to be endless!
I went for something easy to uh… ease… my way back into challenges - alternating Sally Hansen Pacific Blueand Ulta3 Pacific Fever(total coincidence with the names!) with Sally Hansen Plum Luckoutlines. I really like this mani, it’s kept me happy today with the bright pops of colour, though borders really show off just how differently shaped my nails are.
